Yesterday [October 13th] saw the start of the Korean culture month on display at Foyles’ flagship store at Charing Cross.
Walking up to the fourth floor where you have the language section, you can see the display of books centred around the the banister around learning Korean and Korean literature books. This display has been made possible in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre UK. [KCCUK] To this end there are pamphlets on the up coming London Korean Film Festival and Korean Music Festival that is currently taking place.
Foyles and KCCUK are also giving you a free taster for a Korean language class. You can either book your place by emailing languages@foyles.co.uk or popping into the store iteself and speaking to the languages desk. 25th October at 6:30pm is the date to put in your diary for this.
Also upcoming on the 3rd November is an evening with the delightful YouJeong Jeong discussing her book The Good Son, which has been translated by ChiYoung Kim. This also happens to be the Korean Literature Night[KLN] book up for discussion this month on Wednesday 31st October. To find out how to apply for the KLN evenings, see here. This is the author’s first book translated in English and has gained quite the recognition. It was even featured as one of five books to kick of Jimmy Fallon’s first summer reads. Audiences were given a time limit to vote which one of the books they would read and that book would be picked. Although The Good Son was not the eventual winner, it is one of those books you can read on a beach lazily sipping a cocktail or on airplane whilst on your way to your holiday destination. The cover enough is to give the chills. Tickets will cost £5.00. Head on over to the Foyles website to book tickets.
